I've been taking oxycodone daily for about 5 or 6 months. For the past 2 months I've taken roughly 3 to 4 (30mg) pills daily. I am ready to completely stop now and have been reading a lot about suboxone treatment for opiate dependency. I really don't want to replace the opiate habit with suboxone, as most treatments recommend for success. My question is, would taking suboxone for 8-10 days (the amount of time it takes to detox from oxycodone) and then stopping altogether merely delay withdrawal symptoms, or should I be ok at that point and be able to focus on changing my habits without discomfort? I really don't want to start taking suboxone for the next few months, as I don't want to become dependent on it as well. I know it isn't the recommended procedure for maintaining a drug free life, but I really think I will be able to stop taking the oxycodone if I can get past the detox. Please let me know if anyone has used suboxone in this way, or if it will be a feeble attempt to avoid withdrawal.
This was something I also cosidered not going from one drug to another but I myself was in pain mngt. but it was for 5 year period my dose was much much higher and to be honest Iam very thankful I was able to make my decision, been clean for 8months with the help of subs , now down to 2mgs per day an getting great help with questions from this site.
