She ate about twelve small.cubes that I know of, what could happen, she is on warfarin for a blood clot on the lung, her INR results where 2.4 when she left hospital on 10th then went down to 1.8 on 12th then dropped to 1.4 on 15th, she is currently on 5mg of warfarin and has an INR check in morning, should I panic about hwr eating it or not, or just mention it at her INR check
No need to panic. I've been on warfarin since 2008. Cranberries should be avoided but every now and then, I eat a cranberry muffin without any adverse impact on my INR. Hopefully your wife will only need to be on warfarin for a short amount of time. You should read the prescription literature very carefully. Vitamin K should be limited. There are other dietary restrictions as well. Research and discuss nutrition with her doctor. There are also two great support groups on FB (Coumadin & DVT) that are beneficial.
I would Definitely mention it to your Dr. that she ate some cranberries. It should not effect the INR results though as twelve cubes is really not that much.
As the previous poster said... Watching your wives intake of Vitamin K is Very important. I would speak to your Dr. about nutrition if they have not educated you on "what effects your INR while on Coumadin/ Warafrin". Good Luck, Kathy
I had blood clots in my lungs after a hysterectomy. Doc put me on 7 mgs of warfarin. My INR levels were up, down and up and down some more everyweek. I did my own research and decided since warfarin is basically rat poison, I took myself off all my meds. Its been months but I have neverfelt better. I take two 325mgs of ASPIRIN daily and all is well. Talk to the dr about it though. I didnt but I did go against drs advice. I have known myselt for 50 years: I know what works for me and what doesnt. Good luck.
