oxycontin10mg controlled release tabs it says she can take one every 12 hours can she still take the hydrocodone with it
Yes. The controlled release medication will help the overall pain. The hydrocodone is for breakthrough pain. She should take them exactly as prescribed to stay on top of her pain. It's much easier to control pain before it gets bad than it is to try to control it after it gets bad. If she's not used to this type of medication it's likely to make her a bit groggy and unsteady. She should take care moving around on her own. I had my knee replaced a few years ago and it was the best thing I could have done. Wish her the best!
If he prescribed both he should have explained how this works, I would have you check with him because it's easy to over do it unintentionally. The Hydrocodone is probably for breakthrough pain and the label should reflect that along with explicit instructions. My concern is the consequence of withdrawal especially is she's not opiod tolerant.
