This question is to try to gauge wich treatment for anxiety and panic attacks is the most efficient. It could help people recognize similarities in effects between each other and maybe ease some people lives like ours.
Hello lorazematt. That would be from the benzodiazepine drug family. For fast/quick relief, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, or Oxazepam for high stress/panic situations. The longer acting for general anxiety would be Clonazepam or Diazepam. All can be and are addictive and difficult to stop taking when the time arrives to do so. My personal preference would be Paroxatine. Regards pledge
Hi lorazematt. For me, a combination of Xanax and Diazepam work well for the anxiety and panic attacks. When I was taking antiD's,I would have added Lexapro,as it completely eliminated the Panic attacks, but did nothing for anxiety.Over the last 3 years though, I have been able to come off the Lexapro, and reduce the amount of Xanax through a natraul aproach.
I take 4-8 mgs of Xanax a day,(yes, still a fairly large amount, but reduced by half compared to 3 years ago)and only once in a while do I need to take the diazepam.I changed my eating habits in a major way,no eating fast foods,no sugar, eating 6 small HEALTHY meals a day, adding at least 30 minutes a day of cardio, and or,strength training, daily, and getting at least 30 minutes a day of sunlight. These changes in lifestyle, have taken the place of 6 medications that I was taking to address all the mental disorders. Not only was I able to eliminate those, but also I was able to stop taking Hydrocodone daily as well.My GP says the exercise is responsible for helping to ease the pain. The change in diet, helped me to loose 65 lbs, reduced my bad cholesterol, raised the good, and lowered the triglyceride levels, negating the need to be on statins, which caused horrible leg pain for me.Oh, and I quit smoking as well, which helped the meds that I DO still take, work better.
The best drug is the one that helps that patient. Zoloft and lexapro have been used for anxiety. I prefer the newer antidepressents like effexor or cymbalta for depression. Klonopin works for anxiety for some. There is a medication called buspar, that is for anxiety, but its not like xanax and ativan, it is not a benzo, and itsn't a controlled med. You take it every day and it prevents anxiety, instead of treating it after it happens. This one in particular depends on the patient, it helps wonderfully for some, and not all for others.
I am new to viibryd. Only 10 mg so the jury is still out , but seems to be helping. I have been on alprazolam ( or xanax ) for many years. It keeps me calm, but thats what the viibryd is suppose to do. I still get situational panic attacks at times. My alprazolam is 1mg twice a day as needed. I take .5 mg a day... so that is the reason i dont like the scare stories of getting addicted. Like my doc says " if it works, keep on it! What other choice do you have "
