My pharmacist informed me today I may not be able to get Armour since the feds have restricted production because it's a natural product. I have to ask: is this true concern by the feds or are the makers of all the synthetic drugs pulling strings to get Armour off the market?
You are not alone in your views. See http://thyroid.about.com/od/thyroiddrugstreatments/tp/desiccated-thyroid-2009.htm
The government is NOT stopping the production of Armour Thyroid. Most insurance companies dont pay for it anymore but will pay for a synthetic generic that only contains T4. I pay cash. I get 90 tablets for 13.00 a month. I have tried the others and they just dont work for me.This medication has been around for a very long time and has helped numerous people. Also my doctor says that Cytomel is a synthetic and we are not made from synthetics and will not prescribe it to his patience. Forest labs that produces Armour Thyroid is very strong. I have had friends told by some doctors that they are not producing it anymore and there is a number of lawsuits filed against other companies telling doctors they are not making it anymore. I one time heard this and stepped up to the rep and call him a liar. He apologized. I didnt. I was in the right. I know that some people may not do well with AT due to it reformulation back in 2009. Our federal government made them change it but for some it was the end to a means. This is life substaining medication and my belief it that if it works dont change it. I still beleive to this day.. it was pressure from makers of the generic thyroid that pushed the governemnt to make the change.
