I've been taking methadone 5mg 3x per day for the past 8 months and it works great for my pain. I was literally pain free until 2 days ago when suddenly, my pain is back full force. 3 days ago I was put on Doxycycline for Pneumonia. I don't see any interactions that would cause the methadone to stop working and my doctor checked for interactions before prescribing the Doxycyline. Has this happened to anyone else?
Perhaps something about your pain is just getting worse or you are having a flare. I'm usually well controlled but on occasion I get bad flares that my pain meds dont cover, sometimes it is bad enough that my pain Dr has to give me a shot of Toradol or something to quiet things back down again. You dont say what kind of pain you are dealing with but musculoskeletal and fibro pain will often "flare". Talk to your Dr and let him know that your pain meds arent working so he can do some investigation and extra treatment if needs be.
You mentioned you've been sick, really sick. So have you been in bed a lot more or sitting watching T.V. A lot more? Either one could cause a back or pain flare up, especially if it changes your normal routine. People think of over doing it as the case for all flare ups, but any one with back pain should change there sitting position, or get up and walk around ( flight attendants are always yelling at me because I am the last to sit and the first to stand!). It is really easy when I'll to sit or lay in the same position reading for hours when we are sick w/o realizing it. It methadone has a tolerance build-up, but not over night. Hope you feel better soon. Harmony
Thanks Guys. I think it was just a flare up or possibly pulled something due to some pretty severe vomiting. It's getting better with each day and thank goodness the pneumonia finally seems to be getting better... after 3 rounds of different antibiotics! I appreciate your responses!
