Why is medical marijuana so controversial?

Hello sonic101. Theres a strong belief in the conventional medical community that suggests that its use per say does little to help the patient. Another reason is that once easily to obtain, that it be used for recreational purposes. And the theory that as a "soft drug" it can/could lead to more use of the "hard" drugs, such as crack cocaine.
