As of now, late October 2010, the shortages -- mostly unexplained -- are less severe and you should be able to locate some with a little persistence, especially the generic version of Trental (pentoxifylline) made by Mylan (among the large national pharmacies, CVS seems to use this version). Hopefully it will not become virtually unavailable again, as was the case earlier this year. Whatever the cause of the shortages, the situation has certainly not been helped by the fact that after a full year the FDA has decided to continue banning imports of most generics made by Canada's Apotex (previously a primary source of generic Trental) due to quality issues; or that Trental has been permanently discontinued by a generics manufacturer named UDL.
