Why do doctors prescribe more than one blood pressure medication?

It just depends on what works the best with least side effects. Sometimes they do prescribe just one medicine. But if one medicine doesn't control the blood pressure, instead of increasing it's dose (to avoid side effects) they normally add another medicine.
