Why did the drug company change the drug oxycotin from the oc to the op?

The OPs were made to be more tamper resistant. They are difficult to crush. If you hit them with a hammer they will just kind of flatten out or break into large chunks and these pieces do retain some of the time release properties (although some can release immediately so it can still be dangerous to break, split or crush these) They also turn to a gloppy gel if they are put in water so they cannot be injected or snorted (because they gel in the nose too and wont absorb). They reformulated them to be tamper resistant but they can still be abused.
