My 6 year old was on it & her dr. said that because of the new fda guidelines, children under 12 should not take it. She is immune to Flovent and she is having horrible side effects from Advair. The Symbicort was working wonderfully for her.
Studies have shown that there is a chance your child could end up in hospital with serious asthma problems caused by Symbicort. The risks of the Symbicort outweigh its benefits and hence the FDA guidelines.

"... Children and adolescents who take LABA medicines (long acting beta agonists including Symbicort) may have an increased risk of being hospitalized for asthma problems.
It is not known if SYMBICORT is safe and effective in
children ages 6 to less than 12 years of age with asthma"
