Dr. had prescribed Adderall, when it became on backorder he gave me ridalin which now is also impossible to get. What's the deal? Is there any substitution?
Hello katrinnag350. Truth be told it could be a simple supply and demand type of thing. Its happened to me in the past, different drug, I would phone another pharamacy(s) and found that they indeed would carry whatever it happened to be. Pharmacys will often pool, or help one another out, so if you found Adderall was on back order, you might ask your pharmacist to check in his "pool" and possibly get it for you. Best of wishes and good health to you, pledge
Hi katrinag - Had the same thing happen to me & another person re: the Dextroamphetamine/Dextrostat, and Adderall (amphet. salts) was substituted for me. Apparently, the Pharmacist or Psychiatrist (can't remember who told me!) said that each year the # of Rxs. & meds. given out is reviewed by Federal Gov. Last year there were excessive amounts of ADHD meds & Scripts given out, and that affected the amount of production of stimulant meds, thereby causing the short in supply. I'm not crazy about the salts, but think we're at the mercy of the production line unless you can find the meds. in other Pharmacies, as Pledge said. Eventually, they'll be restocked, but I've heard it won't be until July. The alternative is a non-stimulant med for ADHD, but I've been tried on many & others were either inaffective or gave bad effects. Good luck & perhaps ask your Pharmacist what she/he would recommend. I've known mine for years & he will tell me information that is sometimes more valuable than that from the Dr!
