I have had fibromyalsia for 3 yrs and have been taking percocet 10 mg. for th pain(sometimes doesn't work). Still dealing with that but then just recently went in and had back surgery and was given 4 mg of hydromorphone for the pain. Hydr. doesn't seem to touch the pain for my back nor for the fibro. any suggestions out there. I thought that the morphine would b so much stronger. I'm not a pill taker and haven't taken pills until I have become ill. I don't know what ot do. Fibro. keeps me almost bedridden with pain at times. I have 5 kids... i can't be bedridden. Dr. are out of suggestions for the pain I live with everyday. Please someone help...
Doctors out of suggestions for the pain? Time to find a pain specialist! I agree that 3 years is too long to be taking a rapid release pain med (Percocet) as you easily build up a tolerance and need higher doses for the same relief. 4mg of the hydromorphone is a low, but starting dosage. Make an appointment with your surgeon and let him know the dosage is not working. Don't give up! You have the right to be as pain free as possible. Don't accept "out of suggestions" as an answer! I hope you feel better soon and wish you good luck. If your surgeon won't refer you to a pain specialist, find one on your own. Be sure to bring a copy of your medical records and a printout from your pharmacy showing the meds you have been taking. It sounds as if you need a higher dosage of a slow release pain med and one rapid release for breakthrough pain which you shouldn't need to take as often as the percocet.
