I have been on Oxycotin 10mg 4 times daily I have degenerative disc disease along with spinal fusion in L4 and L5 there are 4rods and 8 screws in that area. The disc above it L3 & L2 are missing. I would like to know if I ask to switch to Opana ER would that help in keeping the pain down and also make it to where I do not need to take pills every 6 to 8 hrs. I would like to take less in the way of pain killers yet get the same if not better relief.
Dear Busy Momma:
I have neuromuscular problems from polio and this past winter I caught a fall on the Ice, it broke (fractured 4 vertebraes) messed up a disc and at the time I was on another opiate but I had such a difficult time that my pain management doctor placed me on Opana Extended release 40mg tablets, I take one tablet every 8 hours although a lot of people can take it every 12 hours, it has helped me not only with pain but has not given me that medicated feeling. When I first got hurt I was on (3) 40mg tablets every 8 hours but now am down to 1 40mg. tablet every 8 hours, it was such a traumatic accident until it took a lot to get me under control, the doctor was of the opinion if I hadn't been injured the 1 40mg. tablet of the Opana would have most likely worked especially since it does now. I wish you the very best of luck
