My husband has ms, I his wife give him his shots manually and have no problems until we get to the thighs, he says it hurts a lot, does anyone have any suggestions?
Rebif (interferon beta-1a) is formulated as a sterile solution in a prefilled syringe intended for subcutaneous (sc) injection. I am guessing that when you are injecting into the thigh you might be injecting into the muscle and that is why it is more painful.
Here is some more information.
How should I use Rebif?
Rebif is available in ready-to-use, pre-measured, pre-filled syringes and requires no needle assembly. Rebif is given as an injection under the skin or into a muscle. Your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider will give you this injection. You may be shown how to inject your medicine at home.
Do not self-inject this medicine if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles and syringes.
Rebif is injected into a muscle of the thigh, the outer surface of your upper arm, your stomach or buttocks. Do not use the area near your navel or waistline. Use a different site each time you inject (thigh, hip, stomach or upper arm). Do not inject Rebif into an area of your body where the skin is irritated, reddened, bruised, infected or abnormal in any way. This medication comes with patient instructions for safe and effective use. Follow these directions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Use each syringe only one time. Throw away used syringes in a puncture-proof container (ask your pharmacist where you can get one and how to dispose of it). Keep this container out of the reach of children and pets.
Hi, try to apply a warm cloth frist then inject the thigh. after apply a cold cloth. If this doesn't work then you need to decrease the depth of the injection... it might be to low... thus the pain feeling. I had the same issue but the mentioned above helped me a lot! hope it helps for your husband.
Hi,my nurse came a few days ago and I started on avonex injections to give those injections you put one hand at the joint of your hip and thigh ane hand on your knee you are suppose to inject in between the 2. Ice it for a minute first then where u iced it use your alcohol wipe let it dry fr at least 20 seconds hold shot like a pencil stick it in quick without your finger on the plunger hold it just below the seal of the needle use your index finger to swiftly push down the pluger remove the needle straight out good good luck hope everything goes well for you and your family hope this helps whoever it can
