I'm on day 7 away from any kind of pain medicine I could get my hands on. I'll admit day 1 through 4 were the worst, but last night I did not sleep AT ALL!! My legs just continue to spasm and I continue to sweat, freeze, get goosebumps and have a terrible case of RLS! I need rest to get through the rest of this, what can I do?
Have you seen your doctor? I think you really should make an appointment and see if he/she can help you with this. You have gotten over the hard part (and a SUPER congratulations, girl!!! ) Your doctor can prescribe some short term meds to get you past this period of your withdrawals. If you do not feel comfortable about taking any more meds (and I congratulate you if you want to avoid all prescription medications) you can google the Thomas Recipe. It is a list of otc medicines that can help you through this aspect of your recovery.
Again, you should be very proud of yourself, Quit! You are doing a very brave and wonderful thing for YOU and for your boys.

Hi Quit4kids, I think what you are ding is amazing and i know what you mean by thr restless legs i am trying my hardest to quit all pain meds and i really commend you, i have never made it past 3 days due to the withdrawls and the restless legs kept me up all of the 3 days i was trying to quit, it drove me CRAZY!!! I would like to ask you a few private questions if you don't mind on ho you have made it 7 days. I have had frirnds that said when you make it past the 7 to 10 day period you have it wipped, plz keep it going and i think thats great that you have made it this long, plz don't give up! I just want to congratulate you for quitting for your kids, but also you have to quit for yourself or youmay find yourself right back where you were. I know this is not your intent, so keep trying. You are doing a great job. If you are to continue doing this, I would suggest NA for moral support. It really helps...

I did it cold turkey as well.
Try melatonin, which is all natural., and can be purchased at any pharmacy or supermarket. Melatonin comes in capsule form, usually, add Valerian root and it will help you a lot. IF however, melatonin/valerian does not work, try good old Benadryl, it works!! You will get at least a few hours, perhaps up to four hours, and that is better than no sleep!! I went for three days with NO sleep atal, and I know how rough tis!!

Hello. I have been off of Lortab for nearly 3 days now after being prescribed regularly since July 2009 for chronic neck pain due to damage in my C4,C5,C6,C7. My PMD/neurologist up and left on permanent leave without notifying any of his patients and no authorized pain med refills.The sleeplessness is horrible. My legs will not stop aching with spasms and RLS.. My feet feels as if I have ran 2 miles on hot pavement. My arms jerk while trying to lie down in bed. My elbows having stinging sensations. It is awful to say the least. I have an appointment with a PMD later this afternoon and hopefully he will give me something (preferably Lortab). That has been the only thing that will give me relief for my pain and the sleeplessness. So I definitely feel for you. I have never had to go through this until now and can only think of how to get it to stop and long for the days before I started on Lortab. OTC meds do not help either. I have tried Advil and Excedrin.
Nothing helps me but I hope you get better as time goes by. Please respond back if you would like to know more or update how you're doing. Later
i give your props for being on day 7, i am on a taper plan and go thru withdrawls, i have bad restless leg and arm, and insomnia, and it drives me nuts, what i do is get up, do my devotions, go on the computer and have my coffee as if it was 7 am , but normally its about 3-4 am, odd yes, but i find just trying to fight it and sleep gets me all annoyed. good luck on your continuing journey and success
I'm on day 12 now and I think the majority of the bad feelings are gone! Every once in a while, ill get a cold sweat or goosebumps but nothing like before. I can sleep and I can eat. I have more energy to do things. It's almost a sense of freedom. Before, you were trapped under this haze and missing out on your life, but now you've broken out of that shell and its back to being you again! It was a week of hell, but God was it worth it!
