If you are taking them daily then it doesn't take long for them to become ineffective (actually, they don't change it's your tolerance that grows). So if you need daily opiates for pain control then you should be on a sustained release opiate like oxycontin (sustained release oxycodone) or any one of a number of sustained release morphine pills...
