I started Tri-Sprintec the sunday after my period. I had been using it for 5 days when I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend and he ejaculated in me. This happened not even a week ago. I found out recently that it takes 4 months for birth control to fully work. But I've also heard that it only takes one week. So, how long does Tri-Sprintec take to actually work? (My doctor didn't say anything about it when he prescribed it to me, and I have tried, but I haven't found an answer anywhere.) And my second question is, do I have a chance of being pregnant? I was ovulating when I had unprotected sex.
Most drs will say you are safe after 1 week of pill use, but most planning clinic say you are truly safe after you have taken the first 21 active pills correctly without missing any. It is a bit unclear from your post whether you took the first pill on the first Sunday or your period, or the first Sunday after it stopped. You a supposed to start akin birth control pills during your cycle because of your hormone levels at that time. Yes, there is the possibility you are pregnant because you didn't wait even 1 week into the pack, it doesn't mean you are, but there is a possibility. It takes 3 months for the pills to regulate your cycle, not 3 months before it is effective. After taking the 21 active pills correctly, you are considered safe even during the inactive pills.
