Hi guys, I know you'll say it's very individual but... I was already on Celexa and Wellbutrin for depression and they were good but didn't help the fibro pain.
Seems like what's left is Lyrica and Cymbalta?? Any advice greatly appreciated. p.s. I don't have insurance so I have to depend on samples and the "good will" of the doc, thanx mindy

Hi minda. Lyrica is not an anti-depressant, it's an anticonvulsant.
Have a look here at some of the users' reviews & comparisons while you're waiting for more replies. For example, look up Cymbalta & scroll near the bottom of the page for more links.
Good luck! Love your friend, Wendy :)
P.S. I feel pretty tall today...
The only one I have used for my Fibromyalgia is Cymbalta, but it made me too tired. That wasn't good for me having to take care of a little one all day. But it doesn't do that to everyone. I am really curious about the Savella. I need to find something too. I wish you good luck though. Ruth.
Mindy, I thought I had explained this to you one time, but probably someone else!I take lyrica & believe me I have tried just about everything out there, & it is the only one that has lessened the fibro pain. I even made it thru the full moon last Monday which is a miracle in itself! Alot of people complain about weight gain, but if it's just 5 or 6 pounds, you can hide that pretty well, & who the heck cares as long as you feel better. I have not tried cymbalta because my pain doc says if it doesn't help it's a bear to come off of. I was on 3- 75mg pills a day of Lyrica , & I got very blurry vision. When I went to the doctor Monday last & told her about it & that I had lowered my dose, she gave me samples to take of 50mg to see if I could tolerate taking 2 -50mg pills a day. Well, that hasn't worked so far. Still get the blurry vision.
I should add that Lyrica is a seiqure drug that they have found does wonders for the pain involved weith fibromyalgia patients. It is not a anti depressant, but iof you are not jurting as bad, I think your mood will also increase to a better level. Mine has dramatically... Mary
Mary, thanks so much for the info. I remember vividly (a big deal for foggy me, I do have very lucid hours too lol) what you suggested about Lyrica. You were also having bad vision problems on it and that scared me cause Savella was doing that to me after only 2 weeks at a low dose. So I shyed away from Lyrica as an option. Then this depression, which I Never had before started. So we choose pain relief or depression? Craziness. By the way I was put on Celexa 12 years ago for IBS which I Never had, then wellbutrin... Not one doc took the "pains" I started with for over 20 years seriously! I Just found out I have Fibro. 61 years of BS and I am dizzy, tired and need more coffee now. God rules, mindy
Hey minda,I loved lyrica but alas,I was allergic to it,tried savella and it made me depressed,if I would start at the beginning I would try lyrica first.just my experience.I have not tried cymbalta..but some of the group does well on it.good luck, fibro is so frustrating to find the rite med.good luck, hon,c

Wendy, thanks for telling me, all these drugs are new to me and so is the fibro!
You are silly Mrs. Liverlips, YOU were supposed to get shorter!!! I'm taller but stooped over with this damn cold weather. O are we the Foggy Ones, mindy
I use Savella and love it, it has helped me wonders. It has seritonin in it as well to help balance you out or you can take another on top, I take wellbutrin with it. the depression sure surfaces at times but compared to wanting to do nothing and being in pain all the time, I am in a much better place. I know some use trazadon and savella as well.
thank you Taleese! I am on Savella, it's great for pain but depression seems to be peeking through. If I up the Savella I get too out of it and bad side affects, so I wondered about switching altogether. Maybe will just cope and be glad the pain is under control? thanx again, mindy
I just get a kick out of you Wendy. You are truly a joy. Ruth
I totally understand that hun! I would say if the savella works for the pain not to stop it, i would be so sad for you if the pain increases and you would have to start all over. Maybe ask your doctor what to take with the savella. I was on savella, trazadone and wellbutrin. Then my depression went down so I stopped the trazadone and just take the wellbutrin, i still get the blues at times, especially right now at winter time.
Good luck hun and keep us posted
Hi minda! Savella isn't an antidepressant but Trazodone is. Trazodone also has many positive users' reviews on this site. Have a look at the antidepressants; there's a comparison list here on DC. Trazodone can also help with Fibro.
Ruth, thank you for your kind comments! :D
from Mrs. LiverLips :)
Hi All, Thankyou for all your great advice!!
Savella IS an anti-depressant, is marketed and sold all over the world as Milnacipran (generic) and other Labelled names since the 1990's for depression. The patent was bought by a US company and called it Savella a few years ago and only markets it for Fibro.. and upped the price, that patent is ineffect till 2021!! By the way it's available in many many developed and highly regulated countries and is CHEAP. I know this cause I wondered about getting it online. The reason I asked the question about what is a good drug for Fibro and depression is because Savella works great for the pain but I guess I can't take enough of it for it to be good for depression for me. Also MARY, I took what you said very seriously about Lyrica but since you were having the vision problems I reconsidered not taking it. The Savella blurs my vision badly too at a low dose, don't even feel safe driving. Maybe Lyrica at a lower dose is the answer. Again thank you all, mind
