i have been being perscribed methadone for almost 5 yrs, i am up to ten 10mg doses a day, what am i in for? also if it matters i will be 50 in july
I suppose the answer to your question depends on the method you choose to detox from the methadone. If you are going to taper off it would take 4 to 6 months of reducing your mgs. every couple of weeks until you were off, if you were to use a medication like suboxone it would take you a couple of months to reduce to the recommended 30 mgs and then several days of no methadone before you start the Suboxone and then depending on your response to the Suboxone could take 6 months or longer on Suboxone to be completely detoxed and then you would have to taper off the Suboxone. So all in all it is going to take you at least 6 months to be off the methadone when you are ready.
