Fullofjoy87,
According to Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference, the following are patient teachings for Xanax:
-Avoid OTC preparations unless approved by prescriber
-Avoid driving, other activities that require alertness, as drowsiness may occur
-Avoid alcohol consumption & other psychotropic meds unless directed by prescriber
-Drowsiness may be worse at beginning of treatment
-Do not discontinue med abruptly after long-term use
-Rise slowly as fainting may occur; especially in geriatric patients
-Med may be taken with food
-Do not double dose; take exactly as prescribed; if missed, take within 1 hour as scheduled
-Do not use for everyday stress or longer than 4 months unless directed by prescriber; med may be habit forming; long-term use can cause memory impairment
Hope this helps.
