No. You do not have to avoid any foods while on Coumadin. However, foods that contain Vitamin K can reduce the effectiveness of your coumadin. Vitamin K is an "antidote" to coumadin. Green leafy vegetables can be high in Vitamin K. You don't have to avoid these foods but you do need to consume a consistent amount. It is good to research which foods are high in vitamin K and be sure if they are foods you like to eat that you eat similar amounts of Vitamin K containing foods so that your coumadin can be adjusted around that consumption. What is dangerous is when you suddenly decide to have a large amount of Vitamin K containing food or if you have been eating Vitamin K containing foods and suddenly stop eating them. this can wreak havoc on your INR levels because it changes the way the coumadin effects the body.
