Methadone is a long acting opiate. You will not feel the worst of the withdrawals until 3 to 5 days after your last dose. It is best to wait 72 hours after your last dose of methadone and be at 30mgs or less before starting Suboxone. I believe you said that it has been 2 days and you will be starting the Suboxone on Monday? Since that is longer than 3 days you should be fine to start on Monday then.
You say that you are only going to use the Suboxone for 5 days? That is not really long enough for this medication to "heal" the receptor sites in the brain. Honestly, since methadone is a long acting opiate you are running the risk of having further methadone withdrawals if you stop the Suboxone in only 5 days. My doctor recommends being on Suboxone at least 3 to 6 months. Of course, once you are ready to be off the Suboxone, you will need to taper from it to avoid withdrawals.
I have to agree with Laurie, 5 days on Sub isn't long enough for it to do hardly anything. About 6 or 7 years ago some docs used to do a 3 week rapid detox with Sub. But I don't know if they used to do that with people on Mdone. I don't think it worked out too well, because I never hear of any docs who are still using that method. The idea was to not let you stay on Sub long enough to become dependant on it. Even though 3 weeks isn't long enough by today's thinking, it's 3 times better than 5 days. I'd say consider doing Sub at least 3 weeks. Whatever you do with all this, you should get the 3 main meds commonly used when detoxing someone. Those are Clonidine, Trazodone, and a muscle relaxer, either Baclofen or Methocarbamol. One of these muscle relaxers should help with the leg cramps, and that vibration feeling one gets when doing a detox.
If you really are going to do a rapid Sub detox, then it would be a good if you could taper down even further on the Methadone. The lower the better.
