A friend of mine is a drug addict. addicted to hydrocodone, oxy's and roxy's. He will not admit the latter 2. Has lost a lot of weight. Has become irrational at times. Does not think clearly a lot. Most importantly , lately he is "crashing". Unable to function at all. What can I do for him. I am watching him die and he will not listen to reason. Even though he has to know the addiction is what is causing his body to shut down. Any help is appreciated
Unforunately if someone is not willing to take help there isn't much you can do. Just be there for them and let them know there is people who care. Don't push too much or you will loose them to the addiction. Be caring and aware of what is going on and if it gets too bad find a family member who has the ability to commit them. Everyone has their own "rock bottom" and until they hit that they won't be willing to listen. Additction is a tricky thing and takes over your whole body and personality. I am very sorry to hear that you and your friend are going through this but trust me from someone who has been addicted to pain pills it will take them willing to get the help before it will do any good. You can't get sober b/c other people want you to. You have to do it b/c YOU want to. Hope this helps some.
