Sodium bicarbonate is used in the treatment of hyperkalemia; urinary alkalinization; metabolic acidosis; hyperuricemia secondary to chemotherapy; indigestion (and more), and belongs to the drug classes antacids, minerals and electrolytes, urinary pH modifiers. Risk cannot be ruled out during pregnancy.
Sodium bicarbonate 5 grain (325 mg) is not subject to the Controlled Substances Act.
