.It is my understanding that Lexapro is celexa however a couple of ingredients have been changed but the grouping ie ssri is the same, are people having about the same outcome overall effect on this drug and how well has it been working for some
Don't know that we can actually give you exact precentages but if you plug each of these drugs into the drug finder on this site and scroll down toward the bottom of the page you will find a link to click on for reviews of each. Lots of experience of others to read about. Lexapro and Celexa are both serotonin reuptake inhibitors though Lexapro is generally prescribed for both anxiety and depression while celexa is just depression.
My personal knowledge of each comes from a friend on celexa is doing well while my sister has been on lexapro for years and swears by it. I have been on many antidepressants in my life, presently taking cymbalta and pristiq, and must point out that everyones body is different and therefore you may have to try more than one before you find the one that works for you.
Hi i am on celexa (called citalopram in the UK).
I have been on it for about a year and for me it is working very well. I do take other meds as well because i have bipolar (type 2) and well as depression.
It took me a while to get used to it but now i have, i would say it is the best SSRI i have used. I don't seem to get any side effects from it either. I have tried 2 other anti-depressants in the past and they weren't as affective as this one.
Blaze - it is so true that everybody's system is different, and that goes for side effects of medication. Make sure you read about side effects and contraindications everytime you get a new med, and if anything at all weird starts happening, not only tell your doctor, immediately, but re-read the side effect possibilities again. I recently informed my shrink and other specialists of what was going on with me, but no one recognized I was having a toxic reaction to a new med interacting with an old med. It took me 7 months of impairment to -"ding, ding, ding"- take a hold of my own health and check for side effects and interactions for the meds I was on. Part of the problem is I relied to much on the doctors I consulted, and did'nt do my own research when things got weird - in part, coz idiocy was one of the symptoms. Seriously, be vigilant.
Other than that, one of the antidepressants I take is Lexapro - works well for me. Also works well for my brother. Oh - and do not take yourself off a drug on your own - always do it under the supervision of you Psychiatrist - it can not only give you a horrible experience, but can lead to seizures and sudden mood shifts. You usually have to titrate down slowly, over time.
Good luck with it.
I was first put on Effexor for two to three years and had a horrific time getting off of this medication. The doctors didn't tell me how difficult it was going to be to detox off of it. From Effexor I went directly to Lexapro, which definitely helped and seemed to help right away. About two years later though it seemed to just stop working. I was then put on Celexa and it helped immediately. My Mother is on it too and she said she has lost weight for the first time in years. Good luck to you, hope this information helps.
