I think you're referring to sciatica pain. The sciatic nerve is the biggest nerve in the body and is about as big around as your pinky ( at least that's what my doctor who was performing acupuncture on me said). It starts in your lumbar region of your back and splits to run down both sides of your ass and then down both legs.
If you want to know if that's what you're suffering from then lay on your side in the fetal position. With your free hand reach right behind your bent knee and squeeze or push in. If you feel pain and pressure in your lumbar spine then you can bet you have a herniated disc... Good luck... Dave
