20 mg per day
No one but your dr can advise that sorry:(. The dosage and length of time are determined by medical need. I was up to 20 mg/day for about 3 months to get psoriatic arthritis (joint swelling) under control.. Over the last 2 months, I have been tapered down to 5 mg/day. The first couple of weeks were a little rough but better now;). Today dr told me to start skipping a day between doses for next 2 months. I am hoping to be completely off of it early 2012. Patience is the key when getting off prednisone and working out a plan for you with your doctor;). I hope the information helps a little;)
Good luck and God bless,
Many years ago I was prescribed prednisone for ulcerative colitis. After three months it was tapered off and it seemed to have worked. Long story short , it only was a temporary fix. Two years later I started having pain in my bones leading to a condtion known as avascular necrosis. The prednisone essentially cut off the blood supply to many joints in my body. Many years and surgeries later doctors tell me that prednisone is like a double edged sword in that in many people it can help as much as it can cause harm to the body. I hope that you don't have to be on this medication any longer than you have to be and am letting you know, not to scare you but so that you'll be better informed than I was.
