I have degenerative disk disease, arthritis, fibromyalga and restless leg syndrom. The degenerative disk disease and arthritis in my knees, hands, feet, hips and shoulders are what give me the most pain. I am not sure which one causes me not to be able to get out of bed without taking pain meds. I keep them by my bed and awake at least 1 hour to take them and be able to function? I have taken so many medications trying to find the best thing for the pain. I am raising a four year old and am so sad because I cannot do the things that I want to with my daughter. Any help would be appreciated.
Morphine and oxycontin are very similar. Both are narcotic opiates that treat moderate to severe chronic pain. Both come in controlled release formulas which means they act around the clock on a single dose. Morphine comes as morphine sulfate called Avinza or MS Contin. Oxycodone hydrochloride comes as Oxycontin slow release. My personal preference would be the Avinza or MS Contin. But that decision would have to be made by your pain doctor and you.
Other medications you might consider are non narcotic and include: Neurontin, Savella, Cymbalta and Lyrica. These are for nerve pain and are prescribed quite often for the fibro and arthritis. I take a nonsteroidal anti inflammatory called Celebrex for my arthritis with much success.
Write these down and look them up, if you wish, by typing into the search window above. Talk to your doctor about your options and get his/her advice.
Hope this helps,
