I went to the ER for chest pain. Heart issues were ruled out and cardiologist prescribed carafate and protonix. I don't like the possible side effects which include testing positive on a drug test. Is Nexium just as good and with fewer side effects?
While I don't know the best proton pump inhibitor to take, I can share that I take omeprazole with good results. The side effects are minimal. The following link lists the side effects: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/omeprazole-side-effects.html
You can compare to protonix at: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/protonix-side-effects.html
and Nexium at: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/nexium-side-effects.html
All three of these meds are proton pump inhibitors and are used to reduce the acid in the stomach and esophagus. You may want to compare the prices and what your insurance maybe willing to cover in order to make the best decision.
