percocet for my back after nothing else worked and Im just curious what the differences are? Also, what exactly does breakthrough pain mean?
there is virtually no difference between percocet and oxycodone aside from potency, Percocet has 500mg acetaminophen (APAP), and so does Oxycodone. Percocet 5/500 also have 5mg oxycodone to accompany the 500mg of acetaminophen. Oxycodone of course can contain up to 80mg alongside the 500mg APAP.
Hi again mom, sorry so late! I think I remember telling you about having to go to Philly for my hubby's surgery? The only thing I can add is oxycodone is percocet. However, they do come with less than 500mg apap. The less apap, the better. Long term use reeks havoc on your liver. I don't remember if you were on a ER pain med and needed a BT pain med? Anyway, 10/325 oxycodone is a fairly decent BT med. Please take them sparingly. Percodan is only oxycodone with aspirin. Also can reek havoc on your stomach! BT meds only means you need something strong enough to break through the cycle of a bad flare up if you are on a sustained release med already. BT shouldn't be used for long term, chronic pain. Your doctor should know this and have explained it to you. Then again, so many people have different opinions on this. Hope things are improving for you and wishing you a pain free day!
