i am taking Ms Contin 100's and am constantly being told that oxcontin is better and that i should switch. What i would like to know is the difference between the two both pro's and con's. Thank you.
Very simply, they are 2 different drugs - MS Contin's active ingredient is controlled-release Morphine Sulfate, OxyContin's active ingredient is Oxycodone Hydrochloride... Both are obviously opiate-based painkillers but each metabolizes differently. OxyContin is more vulnerable to drug interactions than MS Contin due to the fact that it metabolizes into Oxymorphone. Really it's just a matter of which better regulates your pain, and which produces the least amount of side effects, this differs from person to person due to metabolism/physiology... Hope this helps... Colin Zimmermann
