I am having problems paying for Provigil. If Nuvigil is less pricey I would like to switch and try it.
I take Nuvigil and can tell you that it is very pricey as well. Fortunatley I have insurance so I have only a small copay. Nuvigil is an improved formula of Provigil though and has less side effects supposedly. I find that it does the trick for my symptoms of hypersomnia very effectively.
Sorry I couldn't tell ya the exact cost difference, give a couple pharmacies a call and get some price quotes.
I have taken both Provigil and Nuvigil.
Provigil is extremely expensive and always has been. I am waiting for it to go generic so that the price goes down.
Since I recently had rotten insurance, I was advised to get Nuvigil because it is about 1/2 the price of Provigil. I don't know why but it was and thus, I am now taking Nuvigil.
Yes, for now it is the cheaper drug.
Wait for Provigil to become a generic drug!
As of 2 months ago Provigil was $1,000 for 20 pills. Today my nuvigil was $600 for 20 pills. Luckily since it is new my Doctor gave me a card for a free one month supply. In my opinion... I have tried both meds. I cannot stay alert, awake, nothing. I pace excersize. Do yard work. Work. Still no sleep. I can only sleep well if I take 4 to 6 mg of xanax. No doc in the right mind wil give me it. When I was on adderall I took 80 mg IR during the day. 40 to 60 mg am. Then a 20 to 40 at noon to avoid heavy crash. Come night time I slept like a baby.
Hi! Late 2016 I needed to start taking Provigil or Nuvigil for "excessive daytime sleepiness" (due to sleep apnea). My Doctor was going to have to send a letter of "medical necessity " to my insurance company to try to get it approved & paid for (less my co-pay).
I decided to call around to find out what the cost was to pay cash for it (not use my insurance to cover it). The following prices are based on 30 pills.
Provigil (name brand) ~$1500+
Provigil (generic version) ~$700-800+
Nuvigil (name brand) ~$700-800+
(Not sure if generic was available yet)
Provigil (generic version) ~$35 (this is not a typo!) /3mo supply ~$80-85
Again, I did not check for $ of generic Nuvigil--- don't think it was available at that time
***Don't have a Costco card? Don't worry. You do NOT need one to use their pharmacy. Just tell the greeter at the door (where you have to show a Costco card) that you are going to the pharmacy & they'll let you in.
Hope this helps!!!
