Does one work better than the other, or does one work better than the other at lowering cholesterol levels?

Niacin is often given to improve cholesterol levels, however its usefulness is limited by a bothersome side effect, known as the niacin flush.
Niacin causes flushing by dilating (expanding) the blood vessels on the surface of the skin. Although this side effect of niacin is harmless, it is often severe enough for people to stop taking niacin.
Slow acting niacin, which contains a higher dose of niacin that is released slowly over 24 hours, taken at bedtime may be a way of reducing this side effect.
They are both equally as effective in reducing cholesterol levels.
