A COPD exacerbation is a sudden attack when your breathing difficulties worsen. Like a panic attack. It is VERY important to remember to calm yourself down and remember to use 'pursed-lipped' breathing,( in your nose, out your mouth, slowly, with puckered lips.) During an attack(exacerbation) this can be difficult to make yourself do, but believe me, it sure does help a lot. I was taught this in pulmonary rehab. which I highly recommend to everyone suffering with this disease. I've had COPD 3+ years.
