What does the ir mean, in morphine sulfate ir?

Ive seen xr,er,ir,sr whats the big difference
IR = Instant Release
ER = Extended Release
In other words do not ever crush a pill that is an ER as you will be getting 4 to 12 hours of the medicine all at once.
I would have to guess at "sr" but would assume it means "slow release"
ir :INSTANT RELEASE

Technically, the IR means IMMEDIATE release, not instant release.
