Donnatal is used to relief stomach cramps and pain caused by various stomach, bowel and intestinal disorders eg, acute colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and duodenal ulcer. It is an antispasmodic.
One of its ingredients, phenobarbital, is a mild sedative so can help with sleep at night.
Donnatal can be habit forming and is only intended to be used short term.
Elixir is a "fancy" pharmaceutical term for liquid.
