You should avoid any medication that can increase your levels of serotonin as these medicines can and predispose you to a rare and life threatening syndrome called serotonin syndrome. Examples of these medicines include the cough suppressant, dextromethorphan, and possibly the decongestants pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine and the pain reliever codeine.
