Causes listed were as follow: Hashimoto's ThyroiditisHashimoto's thyroiditis,Lymphocytic thyroiditis (which may occur after hyperthyroidism), Thyroid destruction (from radioactive iodine or surgery), Pituitary or hypothalamic disease, Medications, Severe iodine deficiency
As for symptoms:
Sluggishness and fatigue, Depression, Greater sensitivity to cold
Unexplained weight gain, Dry hair and skin, Constipation, Menstrual irregularities
Underactive thyroid is also known as hypothyroidism. You may want to do some research under this name.
