I am currently on OxyContin and my doctor has suggested switching me to Nucynta instead. I am wondering how it differs from OxyContin?

Dear azaleigh. Where OxyContin is a pure opiate pain reliever, nucynta has a dual effect. It has an opiate component and a component similar to tramadol. It is also classified as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is felt that the combination may work better than just an opiate alone. It is still as highly addictive as the OxyContin is. There is no generic of this med!It is expensive 260.00 for 60.Medicare and medicaid do not cover it!The dr just changed my hubby to nycerta My husband just switched and he is miserable. He wished he had not been switched to nycerta bc he has 5 broken ribs wjth excruciating accute pain as well.He has suffered from degenerative disease and arthoritis and had been on percocet 10-325 for 6 yrs this med does not help him it is not able to touch his pain.He is also having irrational thoughts and bad dreams (night terrors) I wonder if it is a side effect.Do yourself a favor and if your current meds work DO NOT let them make you switch. Its all about money for new meds and the pharmasutical companies. If somthing work do not mess with it!
