I am taking wellbutrin because I feel depressed but I wan to know if this medicine will make the depression go away or does it just make you feel better as long as you take it?how long do I have to take it for before I feel better?I just don't want to have to live my life on an anti depressant.
Hello. You raised some good points. First, if you are needing help with depression this will help. You should also get a therapist to help with methods on how to handle the depression and get back to joy in life.
Your second part is that it depends upon what the source of your depression happens to be. If it has a genetic basis, then you will need to be on it a long time. However, it is just like many other conditions. If you need glasses you wear them or may switch later to contacts. Change happens while you take medications. If you think of it as diabetes, you can't stop because it isn't going away. Would you be worried about the insulin if you knew it keeps you healthy and safe? Or would you take it and make it part of your life?
Antidepressants take about four weeks to be effective. The progress is slow for some and more rapid for others. If you have been on for a couple months or more, please call your doctor as it may need to be adjusted.
Working with a therapist is essential to make progress. Relying on a medication is not enough. So you are correct that something different should happen. Make that a priority if you wish to be feeling better sooner.
