... has been suggested and the added benefit of smoking cessation. Anyone have any advise for its help of both things? I'd quit smoking for 3 days shy of a year with Chantex but my insurance no longer covers it. I'd been on Welbutrin in the late nineties for mental health and they were purple tablets but I just could not get past the metallic taste in my mouth and stopped it but two friends say it's been improved since then, Any input??
You will not know until you try the Wellbutrin. Everyones chemistry is different. Talk to your doctor about it. Wellbutrin can be an excitatory med and can cause an increase in anxiety. For some people that lessens or goes away after 2-4 weeks.
Wellbutrin is now generic.
Hope it all works out for you :)
Shelly' Yes just as Janie has said it would be worth a try, To go back on the Wellbutrin It has had its problems from what many people have said but pretty much the current generic's are just fine. And if you do get any side effects normally it's for a week or two then they go away. You should talk to your doctor. You would not want to loose all the progress you have made at this point. I know also that most that use it for smoking problems the Wellbutrin SR seems to work better that is the one you have to take twice a day. And just know that when you first start symptoms we have sometimes get stronger like the anxiety, like Janie said but it gets better with continued use. And make sure if the doctor goes' with that to take them at about the same time each day. To help keep a steady blood level. Have a good day. Chuck1957
Shelley, I agree with both these guys. I had successfully quit smoking years ago with wellbutrin. I have also taken it for depression/anxiety several times throughout the years. As Chuck says, the most effective form for smoking cessation is the wellbutrin SR. It is the one that I have found to be most effective for me with the least side effects, which is the one I am currently taking. I take the generic one, and it does not leave a metallic taste in my mouth. G
