I was told it would help me to stop smoking do I have to take it for at least a month before it is in my system and help me
I've never heard that about the smoking part, it will take 2-3 weeks or longer to settle in with the first 3-5 days feeling like it's making you worse, not better. The is normal, so resist making the common error of stopping it or changing the dose, it will settle down. After you're fully adjusted you will know if it's right for you or not.
There are much more productive programs (non-medication) to help with the smoking issue.
Hope this helps.
Wellbutrin goes by a different name called Chantix when it is prescribed for helping one to stop smoking. The active ingredient, bupropion, is the same in both medications, but dosages maybe different. It won't make you stop, just helps with the anxiety caused by stopping smoking. And yes, it takes upwards of a month to reach max effectiveness.
Yes it does. When it first came out for a stop smoking medication the brand name was Zyban. It helps a great deal especially with a decrease in the desire to smoke while taking it, plus it makes cigarettes taste nasty lol. You are suppose to smoke the first two weeks when you start the wellbutrin, then after the two weeks you stop smoking and continue with the wellbutrin. I wish you the best of luck :) ... pamee
