I am looking for a different mix of anti-depressants?
Hi Errnmlm, in my opinion a psychiatrist is your best bet for a different mix of antidepressants, or maybe no mix at all. My PCP spent many years trying to prescribe the most effective antidepressants for me. Following a horrible ordeal with cymbalta (which she advised me to increase to 180mg!), I asked for a psych referral. Good luck I hope you start feeling better
Hello! You can't "mix" most antidepressants... bupropion being the exception... because of the risk of serotonin syndrome, a rare but serious condition. Have you tried other single antidepressants alone? Has your doctor ever suggested an add-on like Abilify or Rexulti?
I agree that if you're seeing a GP you should ask for a referral to a psychiatrist who would be better trained and knowledgeable in psychopharmacology.
Best regards and good luck to you. Wild Cat
Hi Errnmlm. My doctor prescribed me Cymbalta for chronic nerve pain. It caused me to have anxiety and depression! They were side effects of Cymbalta. I ended up bedridden for over 3 years and having many horrible side effects from this drug. I gained over 80 pounds. There is a Cymbalta group on Facebook that I’ve joined where 18,000 people are working on tapering off Cymbalta (and other antidepressants) because of the side effects. Sometimes they just stop working. But if you decide to stop taking these medications you could have a hard time to get off them. They (usually) need to be slowly tapered off. I started tapering off 60 mg of Cymbalta in 2017 and I’m down to 1.5 mg. It hasn’t been easy but worth it to get this poison (imo) out of my body. In this group we believe that Cymbalta hurts worse than the reason we’re taking it for.
There is so much information about what to do natural to help with the problems instead of taking these types of medications. There is a question in here (Drugs.com) where JenJen asks ‘How long will I be going through Cymbalta withdrawals?’ There are now over 200 answers and most of them are negative comments about Cymbalta. Please do all the research you can on these types of medications before making your decision about what to do. I would hate for anything bad happen to you like it did me (and thousands of others). Cymbalta has taken over 10 years from me but this is the last year! I was 48 years old when my doctor prescribed me Cymbalta and I’m going to be 60 years old in a few months. When I’m finally completely off Cymbalta I am going to make up for all the time I’ve missed with my children and grandchildren. My family and I are going to have a ‘Cymbalta Free’ party. I can’t wait for it! Please take care of yourself and I wish you all the best in your journey. Cindy59
