I have had high cholesterol since high school. Tried vitamins, niacin, red yeast rice, etc. etc. also tried statins. All didnt work and had horrible side effects. Is welchol any different? Is it possible that high cholesterol is simply OK for some peopke???
I am so happy you ask the question "can it be that high cholesterol is ok for some people?" and my reply is (my opinion) absolutely yes in my case! I was on Mevacor, one of the first statins I used in 1989 and woke up with a drooping eyelid, tinnitus in my right ear, my vision blurring, and found out not too long afterwards that I had developed 2 cataracts!!! is this all from the statin drug? For me, "yes"... I tried it again in 1995, my CPK levels went sky high! Then tried again the lipitor only 10mg in 2005 and pains in my ribs, urine turned brown, woke up with my head feeling like it turned to tin! I lost most of my hearing! All this time my cholesterol is always 300 and over!!! oh it went down to 252 with the statin drug but the damage it did to my muscles! I am a very active 84 year old (in January 2012) am Italian background and have had high high cholesterol for years! I am very healthy other than the damage from the statin drugs so I will never ever take a statin drug or anything related to it again! I take only acid reflux med, a diuretic for blood pressure and propanolol for familial tremors and I am otherwise quite healthy and look 70 per the doctor! No grey hairs! so I steer clear of the statins as I think it is normal for some people and I think we need it to keep us healthy!!! contrary to all the hype about statins... good luck to you.

Welchol does not go through the liver, therefore it is a lot safer, less side-effects. Welchol works in your intestines, and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. I am not a medical doctor, but have dealt with high cholesterol for 20+ years. When you took the statins, did you take them at bedtime? I found out after a few years, statins are suppose to be taken at bedtime, not sure why, but it is suppose to do its job better at night and you have less side effects, also why it is not put that way on the prescriptions, lol.
Fish oil is actually the best for helping to lower cholesterol, because of the omega's 3 and 6. I have found some gelcaps that are a lot higher in the omega's 3 and 6, than fish oil. My heart doctor said the more Omega's you get the better, is what is important. I do eat a lot of fish too. Also, Chia Seeds are high in Omega's 3 and 6 as well as a lot of other nutrients. It has a nutty taste and can be mixed with anything or taken by itself, only takes 1 tablespoon a day to give you high doses of the nutrients. Chia seeds are really worth looking into.
