Anyone have success on Cymbalta?
Cymbalta can be intimidating to those who read scary reviews. I know only from my own experience. Cymbalta has saved my life. Simple as that.
The problems come if you start having severe side effects, then stop IMMEDIATELY. My two closest friends are unable to take Cymbalta from bizarre side effects. Cymbalta can be prescribed for several different reasons: Depression, Anxiety, Pain and/or Fibromaygia symptoms. For me it was a chemical depression and anxiety that almost ended my life. Within several days I knew I was getting better. Not all results are that quickly, it just showed me how sick I really was.
I don't know the possible side effects that are possible, I just know I only have one and my Docs monitor me quite closely, I can get sores on my tongue quite easily. However, I am prone to them even without, from food problems.
The biggest complaint I have seen is the withdrawal symptoms when stopping them after a time of usage. YOU CANNOT JUST STOP TAKING THEM. Not after a couple of days, you are fine, but once they are fully established in your system and you no longer wish to continue, YOU MUST WEAN OFF. I cannot stress this enough. You will know fairly quickly if you can take it or not, before you would have problems with any kind of withdrawal.
I have never been given a drug before that this weaning off process is so important.
If Cymbalta works for you, it is a life changer. If you have any severe side effects stop immediately. If you choose to try again, and months go by and you wish to go off them, you have to wean. The withdrawal can be severe. If done correctly there is little problem.
My biggest worry is that there is a cap, Docs can only legally prescribe so much per day as what happens if I meet the ceiling, I've been on it for 5 years and am at 90 mg per day, I think 240 is the cap. I am only 55, I worry about that. I have been weaned down and I didnt have pain, but the chemical "being off" was quite substantial almost immediately. It was and is too dangerous so I had to go back up.
Also, one more thing, most insurance companies will not allow for the name brand of Cymbalta, I had to go to generic. The first company of generic I had did not work, I had withdrawal symptoms almost immediately. Not all will work for one's individual system. The law states that the active ingredients must be the same, the binding ingredients can be anything. To me, it was a problem. Even with the problem, it would've been over 200.00 per month for the name brand, I had to find the generic that worked for me.
If you are that afraid, then don't take it, you would be stirring up even more anxiety and making it work even harder I would think.
Good Luck, no matter what you decide
