The patient was put on low dose oral thyroid replacement in January of the year for (subclinical) hypothyroidism. The patient is now euthyroid (TSH 4.0, T4NL). She has 10 tablets remaining. I have instructed her to cut the remaining pills in half, take one-half tablet over the next 5 days, and then 1/2 tablet every other day until her supply is exhausted.
Hi mdworley: Are you a medical professional? The best advice I can add is this:
For the patient who is taking thyroid replacement hormone, he/she should only change any dosing through the doctor who wrote the original prescription for his/her thyroid medication. I assume that if you were her doctor, you would not be here asking for advice on how to wean off the medication! Please get this person to notify the prescribing doctor for any further information about dosing.
