Effexor XR at 150 mg after 3 weeks has worsened my anxiety and panic disorder causing dizziness with adrenaline surges. Will start weaning off tomorrow over a course of 3 weeks with an SSRI low dose and increase that slowly during effexor wean. Effexor has been a living nightmare for me and cannot wait to get it out of my system.
Laurie is absolutely correct. My doc once asked me to go off cold turkey for 1 week to see if the effexor was causing my dizziness. It was horrible. You be very careful about weaning off, take it slow, Yes it is unfortunately very hard to find the right anxiety drug because we all have very different chemical make ups. I wish you well.
I am weaning off Effexor XR 150mg daily at the moment. It has been four weeks since my doctor said she will help me slowly wean off, and I am doing really well. At the moment I am on 150mg one day and 75mg the next, alternating. It has been four weeks on this regime. I will stay like this for a few more weeks, until I return to the doctor, to see what the next stage is. I find taking Omega 3 and Vitamin B complex is helping, but I have always taken these.
A lot of people recommend taking thse supplements when withdrawing. Good luck. Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.
I have been on Effexor 150mg for five years, and it has helped get rid of depression, anxiety and panics, with no side effects. It is my doctor who says I may be ready to quit. I have been on lots of different anti-depressants over 20 years. Time to come off??
My psych doc put me on 75mg xr for a week..than said to increase it to 150mg XR... After 2 days..could not handle even 75mg xr... I was shaking like a leaf..asked him to call in a script for 37.5mg xr daily and he did... but when I saw him he said this was a placebo effect... talked to my pharmacist who said she had other customers/ patients on 37.5mg XR
Just felt the Doc, instead of realizing that high strung people may need a lower dose... and there is a dose respose curve that shows that Effexor acts as an SSRi,at low low doses..the Doc wanted me to reach a dose that affected the reuptake of norepinephrine but if Effexor only works at low doses as an SSRi..it seems to be the only AD that works for GAD, Social Anxiety disorder, and panic... that works for me
Again, everyone is biologically different Make your Doc address your needs. Onlike my Doc who acted liked I was a bad patient because the dose he prescribed did not meet my needs
Doctors will get off their pedestals when patients get off their knees
