... thinks the product may be no longer made. Anybody know anything about that?
We give Cardizem to our cat for a heart condition, but cannot get it currently. Our pharmacist?
Added 4 Jul 2010:
Our cat has been under the care of the head of feline cardiac medicine for the state veterinary college (Colorado State Univ.) for 4 years now. Has cardiomyopathy-a genetic trait for their breed. Also two local vets see him at least once a month. My concern is not treatment, but availability of the drug at the proper strength. (As it is, I have to open the caps in a pizza pan and count out the little bbs into 4 equal piles and pour into empty caps. He gets the 180mg strength-divided by 4- and that is nowhere to be found right now. Thanks for the thoughts so far. We really do have a good handle on his ailment, the pharmacy and vet just cannot find the right med at this time, and I thought maybe someone might know something we don't.
I think you should really conctact a Veterinarian, I am sure he/she, will be able to help you more than your pharmacist ( no offense to your pharmacisr and of course or to you)
I, myself am an aminal lover, an I truly hope your cat gets the best medical attention out there ( from a Vet... from my point of view.)
As Maso suggested, please call your veterinarian. As far as regulating the heart rhythm, this sounds like it may be a safe alternative. I do not know exactly what heart condition your cat has, but this medicine came up as a comparable one.
Digoxin is derived from leaves of a digitalis plant. It helps make the heart beat stronger and with a more regular rhythm.
Good luck to you and hope your cat feels better soon!
I take 360 mg of cardizem-CD daily for high blood pressure, and only this blend of medicine helps me. It is a brand medication. Some pharmacists refuse to sell brand medication over a generic, without the Doctor's written approval. Contact your Vet and have him/her contact the pharmacy. I get it mine from CVS pharmacy. I also have two dogs and love critters. Good luck with your kitty.
