My mother was diagnoise with clear cell renal cancer 12 months ago, they were unable to remove the kidney so did an embolisation, the cancer does appear to be slow growing as in she still feels fine although there is evidence of the cancer in lymph nodes near kidney, stomach and chest. She has had no other treatment however votrient has been suggested and it has been suggested to wait until her quality of life is not so good and then take rather than take now while she feels good as side effects are potent. Any thoughts appreciated??
I was diagnosis with clear cell kidney cancer March 2014 and have been on votrient probably since end of March or beginning of April. Since the cancer meta. to shoulder (bone and soft muscle) it was decided not to remove kidney. In my case the votrient has shrunk mass in all areas and the side effects in my case are minimal. Do research but I think you will find in most cases the side effect of this drug are minimal for those taking. I take daily and six months in I give no thoughts to planning life around daily use. Most obvious side effect in my case is a bit of fatigue which results in daily nap. I work from home and this is no issue for me. I'm taking my third scan next week to make sure the drug is still working the way it is suppose to be. My experience with this drug is very positive.
Husband is on dyalysis with bad side effects from Votrient, diarhea recently, very tired, all he wants to do is crawl into bed and rest. Only drinks Nepro and Novasource and milkshakes. Been taking it for almost 2 months now. Had small renal tumors in lungs and had them treated, stable for 3 years then started dialysis and EPOGEN, which states that it can cause tumor growth but nephrologist said no problem... in center he was getting epogen 3 times a week and IMO, after 2 months after a clear CT scan the cancer spread to the intestines, liver and lungs. Will continue with the 800 grams at night since there is no alternative. You all are so lucky to have minimum side effects, I hope your good health and the positive effects you are getting continue.
If you had a bursting appendix would you wait until it burst and you got peratinitis, sepsis and died..but had a pain free life until that happened?? After my husband's CT Scan with contrast showed a dramatic increase of the renal cancer to the lungs stomach and liver the oncologist said to order the drug ASAP, never mind the cost we could deal with that later but he wanted Votrient into his system the next day if possible. It seemed to be working 2 weeks later but then the side effects made him weak, no appetite, nausea and fatigue. Dr prescribed medical marijuana and we have had some success with the nausea but since he is also getting dialysis his body has a double edged sword to fight. If that was my mother I would get her on medication ASAP.. My husbands cancer was stable in small tumors in his lungs for three years, treated with radio ablation..then the cancer burst into life within 2 months..
